How to go about using a copyrighted song?

Okay so I'm making a documentary with two other teenagers (I'm 14) and I'm wondering how to get permission to use a copyrighted song? The reason I ask is be because the documentary is going to be viewed at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR. It is also going to be on comcast. And be sold on a DVD so we'd obviously need permission. I just want to know how to get permission. (I am apart of Project Youth Doc, film program dash class.). So how would we go about using a copyrighted song?

Hi,

Well, of course you have to get the permission from the rights holder, which would be in most cases the music label which published the song.
